What attracted you to be apart of Evie’s SRP? ( what was it specifically that interested you to be a part of Evie’s SRP?)
I wanted to make a valuable contribution in assisting Evie upon her journey of learning and discovery and to encourage Evie to explore her greater potential. I wanted to make a difference in a young child’s life, and participating in 'The Son-Rise Program' offers fun and productive ways to inspire both Evie and myself to learn and grow together.
How has working with Eve helped you?
Evie and the Son-Rise Program has helped me understand more deeply that fun, excitement and being present in the moment is fundamental to gaining the most from life, and is vital for one’s health, happiness and wellbeing.
In what ways are you able to help Evie?
Through embracing the principles of the Son-Rise Program, I believe that I am able to assist Evie by offering my willingness, enthusiasm and curiosity to create a bridge between us in order to reach out and explore her world. Expressing the values of friendship, respect and trust, and through joyful interaction, I can encourage her to cross this same bridge into our world. This enables Evie to communicate more effectively enhancing the quality and duration of her interactions with others bringing greater success in areas that are challenging for her – such as extended eye contact, verbal and non-verbal communication and interactive attention span.
What is one of your favourite time/play session you have shared with Evie & why? (be specific!! What did you learn or what did Evie learn, or what was it that that made it so memorable to you?)
Simply being present with Evie allows me the opportunity to enjoy each moment with her – from our physical activities such as holding Evie’s hands while she is bouncing on the trampoline to our quieter interactions when joining her in play. It is inspiring to observe Evie learning and delighting in her many activities that were once so challenging for her. I also enjoy giving Evie blanket rides, making silly sounds and playing together with her toy animals.
Is there one personal learning that you would like to share with others, either something special that you have learnt from Eve, or being apart of a SRP & how has this helped you in your life?
By being a part of Evie’s program, I have become more aware that every moment allows both of us an opportunity to learn and grow. I recall a special moment when Evie, meeting me for the very first time, came up and took my hand and wanted me to play with her. My heart was touched by her immediate display of trust and friendship.
( the next two questions are you do not have to add in, but if you wish to share than these could also be an interesting read for someone who may be looking into this Program to become a volunteer or even some other family whom has someone with autism that may gain some wisdom from what you say )
............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ : What is one of your favourite Son- Rise sayings/quotes? ( Example: The difference between a weed & a flower is a judgement,/ There are no loses only gains/ To no longer believe in what is, but to start to believe in what you want/ These are days of miracles & wonder ..Etc. Etc, .. found in Happiness is a choice BNK)
“Happiness is a choice”. This simple yet profound statement offers the understanding that however we respond to life and the world around us, it is always a choice.
What is one reason that autism a gift? to you ?:
to your family ?:
to the world ? :
Autism offers us the opportunity to see and explore the world through another’s eyes – to see another perspective, to challenge and extend our hearts and minds, and to experience and understand another way of being different to our own.
